Organization
The Graduate School of Biological Sciences consists of 16 basic science departments (7 departments of cell biology and 9 departments of molecular biology), 3 lectureships by visiting professors and 1 lectureship by donation. In addition, the Research and Education Center for Genetic Information has 4 divisions, equipped with an RI laboratory, laboratory animal centers, greenhouses and a genetic information analysis system. We also have educational collaborations with 3 external institutes. All faculty and staff of these departments / divisions and institutes collaborate and educate students of the Graduate School of Biological Sciences. We have an exchange program with 2 American colleges, and 1 college and 1 institute in Korea, to promote an international spirit among students. The Department of Bioinformatics and Genomics, the first such department in Japan, was founded within the Graduate School of Information Science in 2002. We collaborate with this department to promote research and education in biological science in the post-genome era.
